Banshee Boy 95
hey im new to the banshee world, and the forum, and i was just curious of what the first maintenene things are i should do to my banshee before use. i have already replaced the plugs and cleaned the K&N's. but i was curious as to what oils i should get to put in, (ex. i checked the coolant bottle under my seat and it looked pretty low. so i should obviously get some of that, any suggestions on brand etc?) also any other oils/ bushings or whatever i should do to make sure its in goo running order. thanks! 94Mike
Welcome, For oils are you talking about premix or what you put in the crankcase? People will tell you mixed opinions on both of these but i run Castor 927 @ 32:1 with 91 premium pump gas. I use Bel Ray GearSaver in my case. Some people do not run that resevour on their radiators but i am still new so i couldn't tell you what coolant to put. Yeah im sure people will give you different opinions, im no expert im still new and only 15... But as i know of there are only two main oils case and premix... Unless you run oil on your K and N filters. I would just make sure it seems ok to ride, but i would make sure your jetting is right and it runs good but if it runs good then you shouldn't have any problems, well any major problems. Check tires, rims, brakes, if it turns ok, etc. Was it just recently rebuilt? If not then you might want to do a compression test. Also what does it have on it? Pipes, carbs, and cylinder work, head work, etc... Edited September 4, 2011 by 94Mike
Jereme6655
correct....there are only two oil in banshees. There is the crank case oil and there is premix oil. EVERYONE will have different opinions on what to run or what they prefer to run. Some will say only use ATF Type F in the crankcase and some will say to only run synthetic oil meant for WET CLUTCHES only. When it comes to running 2stroke premix oils......you can actually run a little bit leaner with quality synthetic oils. there are many that run 40:1 with synthetics and have no problems at all. Hell there's even a few that run 50:
LS3 Machine
Congrats on the new arrival, and welcome to BHQ! You mentioned you cleaned the K & N Filters, so Im assuming it has K & Ns, and some type of aftermarket exhaust? Does it have any other mods? This will effect what you do with the bike as far as fuel type (Premium pump gas VS Race gas). Jetting is the most important to keep a Banshee running well, and for a long time. There is lots of info regarding this subject here. Anywhere between 32:1 and 40:1 seems to be best with a these bikes. 16 ounces of oil in a 5 gal jug of gas will put you at about 40:1. Just give the bike a thorough cleaning with some type of soap and water, dry it well, and spray the moving parts with WD-40. Check everything to see that it's all tight and in good working order, mix up some fresh gas, and ride that sucker and enjoy it. Post up some pics so we can see what shee looks like. Good luck!
