Frame shipping

I was talking to a member local to me ( DFW) about the cost and best way to ship a complete frame. He got a quote of a couple hundred bucks from UPS for going from DFW to the east coast, and I was just wondering if this was reasonable. Having never shipped a quad frame, I have no idea. Is there a better or preferred way that you guys use to move frames?

Greyhound...... Just plastic wrap it...way cheaper.

Cool thanks, I just read that somewhere else too. I had no idea you could use them to ship. I guess the downside would be no tracking #, but apparently they are fairly dependable. Does it take a lot longer than shipping something standard ground?

I used Fedex one time to ship a frame. I didn't wrap it or anything. It cost me $75 from Missouri to Wyoming. UPS will always be the most expensive.

That's good to know too. The only reason i've used UPS is because my brother runs a warehouse that has an account with them, and he ships stuff for me using his discount. I'll have to check with Fedex to see if I'm really saving that much.

is it a complete frame or is the subframe or anything cut off. if not, and you are planning to get a bolt on subframe or if it already has one, have the shipper cut it off before hand or stuff the bolt on subby into the frame. then plastic wrap it and it will save you alot. i just shipped a subframe (i know, not really the same) and just plastic wrapped it and it was about $11. first time doing that, but it surprised me... for the good.

It's a complete frame, but thanks for the tip. That's sounds like as close to free shipping as I've ever seen for something that size!
