slow87banshee Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 So my son just traded his 250r for a 99 banshee today...rode it around a field for a bit and it ran good...wouldnt idle very well but started right up just had to give it some gas to keep it running. So my son took it down to the woods to ride it for a few after the guy left and 5 mins later he was calling me to come get him. Bike bogged down and stalled, and now the kickstart wont move. I drained the fluids and pulled the side cover. Everything looks fine in there from what i can tell. Pulled the plugs and they were dark but didnt look too bad. Need help on what to do next. Im laid off and my son is bummed but i dont have money to take it anywhere, going to have to do it ourselves. Where should i start, i have automotive experience but not atv's... Quote
BUILDER Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 If it bogged down then died and will not kick over then you seized a piston. Start by pulling the head off and then you should be able to see what piston is bad. Go get yourself a cylmers manual they are easy to work on and if you have any automotive experiance then you will be just fine. Quote
slow87banshee Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 thats what i was afraid of...nothing like having a bike for 30 mins and blowin it up.. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Pull the stator (left) cover and see if you can spin the flywheel by hand. X-2 on Clymers. Were you mixing gas and oil for it? Might think of doing a leak-down test before you rip it apart. Between BHQ and a Clymers you'll be good. Quote

Jereme6655 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Not sure how to do a leak down check.....but i'll pull the stator cover tonite... there is a sticky on the top of the general section that describes how to build one and how to test with it. it is a tool to help you find where there is/if there is any leaks in your motor.
