vifferman Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 I was securing the front plastics to the tank when I heard and felt a pop. The bolt is spinning inside the tank mounting hole. It turns left and right but won't get any tighter or looser. I'm sure I'll have to cut off the head off the bolt but what then? Anyone ever have this happen to them? Quote
NYUK Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 theres a thread on the fix somewhere. i got a bunch of tanks. Quote

I'm gonna try to remove the insert with the bolt attached so I can apoxy it back in and then replace the bolt. If I can't get it to work I'll let you know. Thanks for your help, gotta love the HQ! vifferman Posted August 14, 2011 Author Report Posted August 14, 2011 epoxied mine and it came loose again Which epoxy did you use? I'm going to try and rough up the surface and clean it with brake clean to make the epoxy stick the best it can. I'll let you know how it goes. Quote

I don't want to fill and drill either. Used tanks are $30 on E-bay so it isn't worth too much trouble to fix it. Quote
Dicklez Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 You dont want the epoxy that herbie is talking about. You want more of a glue epoxy thats more runny if its for those inserts. Quote

bigblockbanshee Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) I took a razor blade and cut the stripped insert out of mine. I then cleaned up the outer edge and down inside, mixed up some JB Weld, then just kinda dripped it down into the hole. I then took the insert, clean of course, and put it into the hole twisting it so it meshed well with the JB Weld with the bolt in it and lined it up the best I could. After all that I left it alone for a few days, may not be necessary but couldn't hurt, then came back and filed the top portion down flush with the outer edges the way it was from the factory and voila, my old tank has a new lease on life. Next go 'round I'll use studs instead of bolts or screws, that way it holds the plastic without the twisting force and the pulling force that a bolt or screw has. For right now I'm leaving it alone. I'm not one for using 2-part epoxy to "patch" something, matter of fact I hate the thought of it, but this is unfortunately the only outlet I've found for fixing this issue and so far it's worked well for me.
