LT ROOKIE Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 (edited) Hi everyone, I need help with my setup. I am building a 14mm dm for the 1/8 mile asphalt. It has a stock frame with drag lite a arms and struts all around. I will be running american racers 20.5 sd23 rear tires and a wheelie bar. What is the shortest swingarm I can run without the ride being so violent out the hole. Also my builder wants me to run a ladder bar swingarm because it has less flex and will provide more traction. Is this true. Edited August 7, 2011 by LT ROOKIE Quote

Is this true. Swingarm length will be dependent on your weight. IMO it shouldn't be shorter than 10" over, but could be longer depending on your weight. We run a ladder style that's designed a little differently and works good. We didn't see where it provided more traction over our standard aerotube design. The biggest problem is the chain pulling the swingarm left under power in the lower gears. A properly designed swingarm will prevent that. Quote

I know steller sells a ladderbar with the torque bar to prevent the arm from pulling. So i shouldn't go shorter than 10. anyone out there running a shorter arm on a similar set up. Quote

We are 230 lbs with full leathers. Our 1st swingarm was a +8 aerotube and it was violent out to about 330'. Plus, we are running a lot smaller motor than yours. Our new ladder is + 14 and is very smooth and there's no geometery issues under power. We had it built with a torque bar for insurance. The last 40 or so runs have been run with out the torque bar. We have had no issues in either configuration. Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 #3 There's another key area the photos don't show, but the upper & lowers bars are two different diameters. Quote

SlowerThanYou Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 were your times faster with the 8 or 14 We only have about 125 runs on the +14 vs. around 600 runs on the +8. With the shorter arm 95% of our focus was 1/4 mile. With the longer arm 90% of our focus was the 1/8. The longer arm is faster/quicker. Quote
