Starting issues ... can't figure this out ... please help!

Recommended Posts

Ok ... here we go ~

95 banshee

new top end with cool head

boost bottle

cylinders bored 10 over & ported

new air filter (cover removed)

main jets 280

stock exhaust

new spark plugs ~ both getting spark

plug check looks good

compression 160ish on both

It takes me about 20 or so kicks to get this thing started -- after it has been sitting over night

Runs great once it is started ---- but I can't fihure out what the heck is going on.

Cleaned out the carbs just to make sure --- and they looked good .... BUT I noticed that the reeds don't fit tight --they have a slight gap. No cracks - just not a tight seal like my other banshee. I flipped them -- but didn't make a difference--still a slight gap.

Is it possible that the reeds are causing this starting issue??

Any other ideas???

Please help -- THANKS!!

Mimi

Usually flipping the reeds over leads to them breaking off. If you have stock exhaust, a 280 main jet seems AWFUL big. Have you cleaned the carbs lately? Do you have the choke tube between the carbs in place? Are the float bowls on the correct carb? The float bowls are different between the left and right carbs. What size pilot jets do you have and where are your air screws set? Is the spark bluish white or is it orangish in color?

LOL... ummm yeah -- stock exhaust seems a bit stupid --- but I had Duncan High Revs on it & swapped those over to my 1998 Banshee :)

ok -- carbs are cleean --- float bowls are on correctly --- spark plugs are carmel brownish in color --- pilot jets are stock 25's --- air screws are at 1.5 turns out

When I did a spark test -- it was whiteish in color

I understand everyone thinks my mains are too big --- but since my spark plug check shows a good color -- I thought I would be ok. Even if the mains are too big -- how does that impact a starting issue? ??? If I jet down --- where would you suggest I jet too?? 250's?? lower??

Thanks!!!!
