F12000 Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) Hello, i have a 98 banshee with fmf pipes, vforce 3, boost bottle, K&N air filter (ebc dirt racer clutch, yfz 450 shocks, custom made a-arms, hiper racing wheels, maier plastics (front) DCS (argentinian) foot pegs) and stock pistons and connecting rods. I'm from Argentina, so i will not go stroker. As the engine is as it comes from yamaha in 1998 i was wondering it may need some rebuilt. it runs ok, but i think it could be better... The question is: wich connecting rod do you recomend? OEM (yamaha genuine) Wisecco any other? I do not care if ones are a couple bucks more than others, as i want to do this only once... Also i'm going to run wisecco pistons. Thanks I forgot, my use is for dune riding and some MX, not race, more recreational, but i like to hit the gas and have what banshee's have, power! The Crank may still be good. It may only need a topend rebuild (pistons) if the crank needs to be rebuilt.. Its about the same price to buy a new crank as it is to rebuild them. Quote

About 3 years ago i rebuilt my everyday shee I put on stock unbored cylinders and wiseco pistons a wiseco stock crank with stock length rods V force 3 reeds an adjustable timing plate and a Prodesign coolhead with 22cc domes and FMF pipes. since i have done that i have replaced gears a transmission output shaft sprockets chains an a arm bars and clutches. About a month ago i did a compression test and after 3 years of beating the dog snot out of it i still have a little over 130PSI of compression. Just my experience with keeping one close to stock. I have never been beat by another quad that was in my class. Raptors 660 Honda 450Rs even a couple banshees with work( but not too much work) hope this was helpful Good Luck Quote

mopar1rules Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 Japenese OEM rods over the China made Wiseco rods for sure. Even Pro-X and Vesrah rods are decent, as they are Japan too. Quote
camatv Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 hot rods, veserah, are ok never used the proX rods on anything.. anything china made you are rolling the dice on quality Quote
F12000 Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 hot rods, veserah, are ok never used the proX rods on anything.. anything china made you are rolling the dice on quality OK, but Hot Rods in 450 engines are not good at all, they last half of the hours the oem do, so, which are the best rods? versah? IMS? or i should go OEM? are aftermarket lighter and stronger or are just the same? Thanks! Quote
mopar1rules Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Personally I would stick w/OEM rods. Hot Rods are made in Taiwan. I always like sticking w/Japanese rods/bearings in my motors if I can help it. Quote
shanYE west Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Just throwing this out there.. but I've never had any problems with hot rods on any of my builds. And there is A LOT of hotrods out there. OEM stuff is good. Quote
