TrevorJames89 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 My Banshee has been sitting for awhile so I decided to take it out for a rip today. Shortly into the tour I noticed it was making an odd rattling noise. I tried to locate where it was coming from and I ended up popping off the crank case cover. I found that this part in the picture is what is making the noise, when I grab it i can wiggle it back and fourth like it is loose. I not to mechanically inclined when it comes to small engines so my question is: what is this part? What do I need to do to fix it if that is the problem? Quote
pelzinga Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 that is the flywheel, yes you need it... it also controls the spark via the stator behind it... u may have sheared off the woodruff key that holds it to the crank... i would get a flywheel puller..(15$) and check it out Quote

Larry's Shee Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 First "tool" you need to buy is a Clymers Repair manual. If you can wiggle the flywheel you probably won't need a flywheel puller (this time). Use ONLY a puller for Banshee/Blaster not anything from Autozone, etc.The flywheel key is a half-moon shape piece inbetween flywheel and crank shaft, if it looks marked or effed-up in any way replace it. Larry's Shee Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 BTW, welcome to BHQ !! If flwheel came loose there might be some metal fileings , hopefully no major damage. Be sure to get all of it out/off of flywheel. On outside of flywheel at 4 o'clock is the pick-up coil, look at it closely for damage. After FW is back on it has to be set at .018 from the two lugs (bumps) on outside of FW. Quote
