screamin_mimi Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I am having some trouble kick starting my Banshee .... it doesn't start for about 4-10 kicks. I have already cleaned the carbs, changed the spark plugs, cleaned the pilot jets and wondering if the REEDS should be changed? When trying to kick start it -- it almost smells slightly flooded -- but runs great after starting up and on idle. Anyone know how to tell if the reeds or reed values need replacing?? OR any other ideas??? Thanks! Quote
BUILDER Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Does it always start ahrd or only when it is cold? If it takes 4 or so kicks to start it after it has been sitting for a few days then you have nothing to worry about. Quote
screamin_mimi Posted June 7, 2011 Author Report Posted June 7, 2011 Tested the compression and it seems to land about 50 psi ..... not sure I tested it properly. Do I run it before testing or test it cold? Leave in 1 spark plug or remove both? Any suggestions -- to make sure I do this right. also ---- if 50 psi is my true compression ..... then what??? Thanks for all the help!! Quote
Zwiser Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 im having somewhat the same problem, it takes like 10 or so kicks to start when its cold like sitting for a few hours, but once its started and warmed up itll star in 1 kick, ive found out that one reed on the cage is leaking. theres no airleaks and the compresion is little over 120 on each side Quote
screamin_mimi Posted June 7, 2011 Author Report Posted June 7, 2011 Ok ... tested it cold ... and 50psi is what I am getting. So -- if it is that low ... what do I do?? It runs great after it starts -- but has trouble with the starting even the next morning running it for hours the day before. How would I know if I have a bad reed or reeds?? Do you know how far the pilot screws should be out with Duncan High Rev Pipes & a new K&N Filter? Quote
BUILDER Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 The best way to test it is to take the plugs out hold the bike wide open and kick it till the gauge stops moving and if you have 50 then you are in need of a new topend my friend becasue 50 is way to low! Does your gauge screw in or is it a rubber tip one that you just hold in? Quote

Does your gauge screw in or is it a rubber tip one that you just hold in? Gonna test it again .... to make sure. It is the screw on type...which is a pain to put on. Do you know anything about the reeds? 1 seemed to "stick" to the cage a bit. tried to flip it around -- and of course dropped it & COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHICH WAY TO TURN IT. What will a new top end run me?? Quote
Larry's Shee Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 For shits and giggles try a different comp tester. Doubt with 50psi you could ever get it to start even pulling it. Quote

Doubt with 50psi you could ever get it to start even pulling it. i think larry's right....if 50 is true then you'd have to pull that bastard behind a freakin truck that's HAULIN' ass to get enough compression to even let it fire up. Then on top of it i doubt it would even continue to run at idle. Quote
