You DO realize that the turbine unit alone will cost you around $4500 for a Jet Cat turbine engine which will need to be converted to a shaft engine to turn a propeller (which will cost you close to double), which doesn't include the price of electronics, support equipment, or really anything, just the turbine unit alone. Total everything up and you're looking at $10-$12k for that boat, and with an inexperienced driver, you're likely going to crash it, and it's going to go down in a firey blaze. Run JetCat because they are very good with their turbine engines (unlike Wren, which also suck and have a poor usage life- most grenade on users after about 10 gallons of Jet-A). Stay well away from model turbine engines unless you know what you're doing- just FYI ;)

I'd keep the shee and ride the snot out of it- much safer than a turbine boat....

I wouldn't have nearly that much into it.

I've been an RC guy for about 10 years and have raced on a semi professional (if you'd call it that) circuit. I've raced dirt, flown/own heli's, done the airplane thing, and now I want to get into turbine. Appreciate the concern, but I got this.

WREN motors are not junk, but with any nitro or turbine motor you need to maintenance it often. Jet is only 20 miles from me, but I am not down for spending 5k on their vacuum cleaner.

Lol, that's interesting, first time I've ever heard someone put down JetCat. Even around the local turbine fields, nobody recommends WREN engines, and they won't even talk about them lol. I've bee flying/driving/boating for 11 years, in the hobby for 13, too much fun, I need less hobbies lol.

Where did I put them down?

A few rears ago, the real Miss Budweiser hydro was for sale on ebay in the Bahamas. No jet, transmission, or electronics. I don't remember the price, but it was several hundred thousand. I thought, wouldn't it be cool to put a big block chevy motor in it with really quiet exhaust, and a massive stereo system that would play jet engine sounds, and then just cruise around.

I had this same situation almost. Someone dropped off a crank and cylinder for an lt250r at my local honda shop,to have the crank rebuilt and cylinder bored, and never came back to get it.

It had been 90 days and they said in kentucky they had the right to sell it to cover their costs after a certain period of time. So i ended up getting the parts dirt cheap.

There are several lawyers near me that either have free or 50 dollar consultations. If i were you i would talk to one so you know your in the exact paramaters of the law. They could tell you everything. If you dont document it,and they guy gets pissed he could report it stolen or something. Im willing to bet by law it belongs to you,but i bet theres a step you have to take to make it official.

I have to fill out some paperwork at the DMV. They'll then contact the owner, and he has 2 months to claim his property and pay the lien on it. If he doesn't I own the property.

What I couldn't figure out is if I will owe taxes on the lien amount. I sure as shit don't want to pay 10% on 4k...

Why would you have to pay taxes on it?

If he pays you the $400 won't matter, you'll have $4,000.00.

If you get the bike it will go in your name, not the business, so I think you are safe either way.

Income is income. California doesn't care how you got it, as long as they get a piece of it.

So I finally went to the DMV. Just like I thought. Have to jump through hoops. Here is the procedure for others who care.

Find the owner by completing a Reg Information Request

Wait 15 days

Send a certified letter to

a)Registered Owner

b)Legal Owner

c)Any other interested party

d)DMV

List the vehicle for sale at least 10 days before the auction

Auction has to be less than 4k

etc. etc.

Yeesh...
