Burt Reynolds Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 is there a DIY on a compression test? i wana do one just to check.how do you do it? Buy a cheap autozone tester. Remove one plug and screw the tester in,only hand tighten it. Make sure you hold the throttle wide open, give it 10-15 good kicks, but i always kick until it wont go higher. On a stockish shee 135ish is stock 110 and up is ok. Cylinders should be withint 5 psi of eachother. Quote

That is how they teach you to do it in mechanics school, at least it was 25 years ago when I went. You also want to make sure the tester has the check valve right at the end of the fitting that screws into the head, as that can affect the reading also. Quote
NetBSD Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 i picked up a cheapo at harbor freight for $9.99 a few days ago. but remember you get what you pay for, i got the cheapo one for in my trucks tool box and kept the good one in the garage Quote
