hey guys got a qustion so my dad went and bought a 89 banshee last sat um... as far as i know all it has done is fmf pipes lids still on airbox and tors removed twist throttle

now when we were riding i have 20s for rears and he has 22s now they were pretty even for top speed...now my qustion is i have a 13 tooth front sproket which i think stock is a 14

now he dont like the pipes cause of them being loud so hes putting the stock ones back on now wont he be loosing some power?

and when he gets the bike back we will be racing he think he can take me and beat me bad

my bike is a 01 t6 pipes and in the summer i have the lid of airbox i also have some reeeds for it and it has a boost bottle and vitos super stock pistons stock bore and a 13 tooth sproket

now do u think i can take him in a race his bike is gunna be all stock now pipes and everything stock he has 22s on the rear and the stock sproket setup as far as i know

any ideas would be appricated i dont want to loose to a completly stock bike

Man you worry about loosing races, don't you. haha.

As long as your bike is jetted correctly and everything is within spec (and you don't completely suck at racing) it shouldn't be a problem. BTW, FMFs are probably one of the quietest sounding exhaust you can find for the banshee. Its ashame he's going to stock pipes.

Well a lot of it is cause its my dad so that's all I will hear if he beats me

For some reason he thinks the older banshees are faster then the newer ones

And these fmfs he has are really loud idk I don't think there fmf silencers though

it could just need new packing in the silencers.....it'll cost him like $15 to do it.

on a side note......your dad is "semi-"right

that being said....the 87-89 (may have been only half way through 89 before they switched) had J-arm front suspensions.....the later models after 89 had A-arm suspensions. The J-arms are lighter in weight than the A-arms but also do have slight problems with being able to withstand hard hits on gnarly trails. The A-arms withstand better hits but are also heavier. So technically speaking if EVERYTHING in the race was EXACTLY the same including rider and rider weight......yes....the J-arm might pull ahead by just meare inches.

yes....he WILL be losing power...

I figured he would be but he said the older ones like 87 to 89::: were the fastest years cause he had a 89 when he was my age so now he thinks if its stock or not he will beat me

NO, Banshees through the 1990 model all had J arms. The 1991 model is when the put A arms on them.

Now you should be able to accelerate faster than him. Now he has stock gearing with larger rear tires. Now you have 13t front sprocket and 20s. Now that equals to quicker acceleration.

Just race him man, if you don't work its back to the drawing board. Put a 15 tooth front sprocket on and you'll win the banshee has a lot of wheel spin as is with stock gearing, i would never drop a tooth in the front
