hey guys, i have a 2001 banshee, 4 mill hot rods crank & standard rod, weisco stroker pistons, boyseen reeds in stock cage, stock carbs (260 mains), a durablue twin filter and airbox lid modified for more flow, FMF fatty gold series 2 w/ powercore 2 silencers and a dirt digger cluch (really hard pull) stock gears and 20'' rear tires. soon a trail port and bigger bore.

my questions is, is it worth it to mod the stock timing for +3 or +4 timing for more power. as i dont want to spend a wackload or wait 6-8 weeks for aftermarket.

and with my jets i moved the needles up 1 notch to richen it to run it in the snow the rest of the winter -10c -30c, do i have to rejet or will i be fine?

what jetting should i have for this setup?

what other mods can i do to get more power.

my buddy just bought a new yzf450f dirt bike and i can almost walk all over him but he manages to get me in the end and everyone around seems to be rocking 450s with big bore/strokers and i want to show them my $3500 machine just shiton there $12000-$15000 machines. and not to many people interested or know anything about banshees around here or modding them.

Thanks

if you want to walk all over them then your for sure going to want to get your cylinders ported for that 4mill. it'll for sure wake that bike up. and advancing the timing will give you a little more grunt way down low in the power.....however it will also take away a little from your topside...

The few things I would consider is,

Timing Plate

Bigger Carbs

Different Pipes/CPI,Shearer... (i dont have much experience with fmf's)

yes!

bigger carbs, and better pipes. fmfs aren't high end pipes, and adding the timing plate and keeping those pipes would be a waste. A timing plate will get you higher rpms. Port it, carbs, pipes, timing plate, and then it will run. and on the jetting,,,, you will defenately need different jets or you will be way way too lean I think. also while you have it apart measure stuff up and make sure it is a 4 mil crank! good luck!

i have the part numbers for crank and rods and called a powersports parts depot and gave them the numbers and was told its a stroker crank. how do i go about measuring it to make sure myself? got my motor put together, installed and running this morn after a 6 month tear down and will pull it apart again. it only takes me 30 min to have motor out and almost all torn down (without scratching or damaging anything)

When I was running stock carbs on a 4 mil, My jetting was a lot richer. Mains were 340, Pilots 27.5. Might want to do a plug chop to double check your jetting

Well if you have regular boysen power reeds you need to first lose them, port your reed cages and get some pro series, or VF3's. Those reeds won't let your bigger carbs breathe at high RPM's.

Then yes, mod your plate to +4, get a good port job I recommend HJR. I'd recommend a dune port if you don't spend too much time on really technical trails.

Oh, and if you still have the stock head, send that sucker to get milled and rechambered. You are losing a ton of hp with the stock head.

Wow talk about a money pit.

But definately the head work, timing plate would be a good start.

Then when you have the money saved up for the porting, reeds and carbs I'd do that.

Just me.

But definately the head work, timing plate would be a good start. A good 8-10 hp for 100 bucks or so. Call Mull engineering for the head work. Oh! And you can also trim 1mm of the top of your piston adjacent to the exhaust port. That will give you a nice 5 HP bump in your top end. PM me and I'll explain how it's done. So 15 hp or so for $100 plus a little elbow grease.
