shakar Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 i know its risky to mess with the stering stem , it doesnt even feel solid and im not sure how it looks inside? ............but has anyone ever cut and welded in an inch or so without a trip to the hospital?? i cant bring myself to buy an extended stem for 200+ and i allready have the 1''riser at the bars . thanks Quote
Coupelx Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 never done it myself but if its hollow on the inside just slug it with another piece of steel. heres a video to demonstrate Quote
midlifecrisis Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Hey, Long time! Thrilled with the cylinders, thanks for talking me into it, lol! Yeah, I almost bought one off a guy on here who was adding an inch to them with no issues by splitting it and welding in a piece inside it. Question though, why wouldnt you just add a bar riser? BUILDER Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 They are hollow and if you can weld at all it is no big deal to extend one. LIke was said above put a slug in it and you will be fine. I have cut and welded them before. Quote
MN SHEE Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 I added 3.5 to my stearing stem because i have low rise fattybars, looks much cleaner than risers i built a slug out of heavy wall tubing and turned down the ends to slip inside the stem. then i welded the eds of the slug to the stem ground them clean and painted looks great Quote
