sangheraent Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 I got these arms from a guy on here, and realised a couple days ago that the top ball joint is really big. I wouldn't mind reaming the spindles but I cant find any reamers anywhere. googled the shit out of it asked local hardware stores nothing. I had a plan to take the bottom ball joint out of the yfz arms i got here but these arms have way too big of a hole and its alot deeper then the yfz arm. anyway Id like to know if you guys could id these arms and I can go from there. Maybe I can order a ball joint that fits without reaming. or I might go the route of having my welder guy modify the arms to take the new style ball joints that screw in and out. anyway what are these: Quote

camatv Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 have you tried putting them in your stock spindles? they look like they MIGHT use warrior ball joints. if they are warrior its a big joint and fits stock spindles. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-WARRIOR-87-BALL-JOINT-ROLL-DESIGN-ARMS-YFZ-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5d2b859d34QQitemZ400162135348QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Quote
Starwriter Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 They're VW super beetle ball joints that atvracing does some kind of custom machine work on and then WELDS them into the arms. They actually PC the arms, weld 2 spots to hold the ball joints in and then touch up the PC. I have a pair of them that I bought off ebay that looked like screw in ball joints in the pic. Well, I sent them to be chromed, told the chrome shop about the plastic in the ball joints. Don't know how they did it, but somehow in striping the PC, the plastic is gone. If I hadn't already bought new heims and bushings, I would just throw them in the scrap pile. I am probably going to machine out chromolly bungs and tig them in. Going to have to make a jig to hold the uppers together. Way too much work. But anyway, mine are the correct taper size for the stock spindles. Don't know what's up with yours. Quote
camatv Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 wow that sounds like a pain in the butt.. i know you can call tim at stellar and get 4 balljoints and the weld in bungs for them and the ball's fit stock spindles and are really nice.. thats what i would do Quote

I saw an old thread in here where Stellar mentioned about the ball joints and bungs. That part of the build has kind of been on the back burner. I just got my cylinders, trans and stuff back from Redline yesterday, so I can put the motor back together. Quote
sangheraent Posted February 28, 2011 Author Report Posted February 28, 2011 well Im taking these to my machinist on monday or tuesday. Im going to have the spindle reamed for now. unless my machinist says otherwise. If that doesnt work im going to get him to convert them to the modern screw in ball joint style arms. my guy is pretty good with price and very good with his work. Quote
