252wheelieking Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) Im in need of some opinions on which crank would be the most reliable. I have a factory stock stroke crank in very good condition(like new) that im going to get Kevin at HJR to true & weld for me. I'm also thinking about buying a Hot Rods stock stroke crank that comes trued & weld. Can I get some opinions on what would be the best option for the most reliable crank? The reason for asking this is because I was told with all the mods I had done to my top end & using stock crank, I was taking a big chance of blowing up my engine because it's not true & weld. BigRed350x Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Having Kevin true and weld your crank is a good idea. If your crank really is in good condition, there's no need to spend the $ and buy an aftermarket one. Just have Kevin do the true and weld and you will be good. Stock cranks are a pretty good piece once trued and welded. - Jared Quote

bansheesrtoys Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 well if you are going to buy a new crank why not get a +4 too? Quote
Coupelx Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 i lost the stator side bearing in my stock stroke hotrods crank. ran metal though the top end and transhed everything. all the other bearings had a fair amount play too. 4 years old. Quote
T_Shee Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 i agree with big red. having a newer stocker trued and welded is as good if not better than hot rods imo. if you buy a got rods that is trued and welded i think you should have someone weld it better anyway. took my 4 mil hot rods out this winter to get it welded better and the hot rods welds were already cracking after only a couple months of use Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 well if you are going to buy a new crank why not get a +4 too? Because he'll most likely need new jugs ported to the longer stroke. When jugs have been ported for a stock stroke crank usually they cannot be corrected for a 58mm stroke. Quote

Thanks gotta_gofast, thats the exact reason im not going with the +4mm cause I just got Kevin to port these cylinder for me in Oct. 2010. Im satisfied with the power that my shee makes now, it's just that I want to insure it so that it will last. I will probaly do a +4mm later on when I wear these cylinders down or my cousins step there HP up....lol.... Quote
n2otoofast4u Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 If your stoker is in as good of shape as you say, have it trued and welded and run it!!! A properly setup stocker is hands down better than that hotrods junk anyday!! Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Stick with the stock crank and just have Kevin do his work to your crank. Quote

He said he just brought the banshee just to part it out. Im going to get Kevin to check it over & see if it's worth being trued & weld. If not I have another stock crank that install in my shee now that I will also let him check to see if its worth getting trued & weld. My last option would be just to buy a new hot rods crank & send that to Kevin to get it reweld & trued cause I heard that the weld that comes from hot rods are not that good. Stick with the stock crank and just have Kevin do his work to your crank. I appreicate that BigRed350X... im just as confindent in Kevin's work as you. We are on the same page..... Quote
