MattW Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Hello, new guy here. Guys I am having a hell of a time finding a actual power rating for the YFZ350 motor. Anybody clue me in? Also, what are the common mods for the Banshee motor and how much power does it make? I know the big bore motors can make silly power but I'm thinking about buying a used banshee motor and sticking it in a streetbike. Just seeing how much power I could have without having to resort to major $$$ mods like crank kit, etc. TIA. Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Its like 32 to 35 depending on elevation and what factory jetting it came with. Common mods are pipes, reeds, bigger carbs, porting, cool head, timing advance plates and 4mil stroker kits. With these basic mods you can get into the 60's and 70's depending on the options you go with. If you do everything right you can get up into the 80's and 90's pretty easily with 4mil setups and methanol. It all depends on how much $ you have and how crazy you want to get with things. welcome to the HQ! Quote
MattW Posted January 1, 2011 Author Report Posted January 1, 2011 Great, thanks for the responses. May I ask, what is the reason for methanol power improvement? Is there any way of getting the same power with i.e. oxygenated race gas? I would want a decent spread of power with reliability at high RPM's. Nothing like a drag motor for example. More like a TT motor. High RPM operation. Quote
STINKYDELUXE Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 how much are you planning on spending? Quote
MattW Posted January 1, 2011 Author Report Posted January 1, 2011 (edited) Realistically, around a $1000 without the pipes would be the budget. Pipes are gonna have to be custom made regardless and I expect this won't be cheap. That's another problem all together. Thx. Edited January 1, 2011 by MattW Quote

Believe it or not you can actually do alot of what BigRed said for about that price........the pipe thing DOES suck ass...but there have been a few people that put these motors in street bikes.....im sure they might be able to help... bansheesrtoys Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 look at some of yamaha'a older streetbikes i belive in the 80's some had the rz350 and 400 motors in them hich is a banshee motor. you could get pipe idea from them. Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 You will get the most bang for the buck with the 4mil crank and the porting. Do some research and find out what you need and what you can afford. These damn things get expensive fast. LOL Give kevin at Herr Jugs Racing a call. He can get you squared away with a perfect port job for what you want to do with your setup. He has great customer service and really fast turnaround. He carries all of the parts you would need for your build and will get you setup right the first time. His number is in my signature. If it were me and I had a $1k budget I would do the 4mil crank, porting, cool head, and if you have $ leftover after that then get some of the other goodies. But those 3 things will give you a huge difference over stock. Next would be timing plate and reeds... Quote
