loeyboy Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me diagnose a problem I am having. I have an '06 Se with 30-40 hrs on it. Lately when I've been drag racing my buddy's I've been having issues shifting into the higher gears (5th & 6th). 1st - 3rd shift fine, 4th is a little tough but when I get into 5th and 6th, it seems like it's stuck and I have nothing left. At first I thought I was having issues with my boots and the nerf bars, so I removed the nerf bars but it didn't solve the problem? any suggestions? Thanks! RC Quote

RC most tranny problems are because of worr or bent shift forks.but i have seen cracked shift drums in overrides Quote

Isn't it more common for 1st-2nd to go first? Quote

Isn't it more common for 1st-2nd to go first? they will have to be split to change anything other than the shift star and shift shaft, not sure about which wear first ...but make sure to check all the snap rings and washers when ur into the tranny Quote
sleeper06 Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 I would try simple stuff first, pull the clutch cover look at the clutch, pull the shift shaft out n look for abnormal play in the rivet, make sure all the clips that hold the tranny straight are still in so the drum is not moving Quote
AKheathen Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 if it's trouble going both in/out 5th&6th, i would try running atf type f in it and see if it starts to get better......could be build-up from lack of use. describe the symptoms better...........could be a number of things, but i do know 5th and 6th is the same fork, and mesh speed is real slow in comparison to the other 4 gears........and, yes, 2nd usually sees the most wear/abuse Quote
