252wheelieking Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 I just brought new swingarm bearing, shaft & seals & I needed some help on the best way to remove the old bearings without damaging my swingarm. I never replaced the swingarm bearings before on my banshee. The last time I tried replacing swingarm bearings was on my sons LT230S & I F__KED up badly, causing me to have to buy new swingarm. I have the clymer's manual & all it says is to (support the swingarm & press out the old bearing)....lol.....But how? I know with a bearing press but what good is a tool that you don't know how to use? All help is thankful, Reek Quote
Larry's Shee Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 When I did my son's I carefully ground the outer race until I could smoosh it with a pry bar/screwdriver. Tapped new in with wood block. Tips : coat bolt with anti-seize , install grease zerk in swing arm. JMHO , your results may vary. Quote
AKheathen Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 well, i have a bearing/seal puller attatchment for my slide hammer, but you can also invert a small jaw puller.......they are usually in there real good, though.......i had to use a race splitter and sleeve cutter (a half-round chisel punch, and angled 4-point) to get them out. if you go at it at the top to split it, then you really don't have to worry much about small gouges. i've also used my die grinder tu grind out the same style needle bushing race on my 4-runner. even went a little deep and it's still holding 6-7 years and a lot of 4x and highway use...just filled the divot with jb-weld Quote
J-Madd Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 The dremel and sledge hammer I own today was due to that very project (replacing swingarm bearings). I had to thin the race with a dremel until I could break it (like already mentioned) Quote
