shoopie Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 if you read my other thread about my bike stalling you know that i was messing around in 1st gear doing wheelies and stuff and once when i hit the throttle it bogged for a couple seconds and then shut off and wouldnt start back up today when i went to try to start it still wouldnt start pulled plugs looked fine no spark at all tried different plugs still no spark pulled the stator cover and flywheel and the stator looks fine but i dont know of a way to really test it i checked all the wiring nothing looks worn or broken i dont really know what else to do i need some opinions on what i should try or what it could possibly be please help guys i wanna ride this weekend bad Quote
shoopie Posted October 16, 2010 Author Report Posted October 16, 2010 im thinking its either the coil or the stator i know theres no way to test the coil without buying a really expensive tester. i would take it to the stealership service dept but i have no money right now i need some help guys i know someones gotta know whats up Quote
SkinInd_Banshee Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 You can go to Harbor Freight and buy a cheap ohmeter and get a Clymer Manual Quote
AKheathen Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 go to the home page, not forum home, and check the technical info. it tels you how to ohm the stator and what specs. also, test your functions at the cdi plug (harness side) the red/black wire must have continuity with ground(black) to run (key switch wire) and the black/white wire cannot have continuity with ground to run(killswitch, and tors "kill" wire) Quote
sleeper06 Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 You live 45 min from me bring it by I have alot of parts and 1000s of dollars in test equipment,I would be willing to help you no prob, could be something stupid just without it in front of me its hard to diagnose Quote
shoopie Posted October 16, 2010 Author Report Posted October 16, 2010 alright pm me your phone # and address. i might be able to get up there tomorrow if youre not busy. Quote
shoopie Posted November 6, 2010 Author Report Posted November 6, 2010 alright guys, i replaced the CDI and the coil. also removed everything unneeded from the harness like lights, tors, voltage reg. etc. according to the clymers manual and what guys have posted on here. still have no spark. only other things that it could be are a bad connector on my harness or a broken wire somewhere that isnt visible. i am going to get a resistance tester monday and go through every individual wire. but i also havent ruled out a fried stator. i dont know how a stator would go bad after riding for like 3 hours over a period of 3 days. any input from you wiring experts out there? -Ryan Quote
AKheathen Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 you have to ohm the stator out, and yes, it can just go bad, especially with heat and high revs. make sure the red/black wire sees ground, and the black/white wire doesn't, when testing the harness at the cdi plug, and key/killswitch both "on/run" Quote
shoopie Posted November 7, 2010 Author Report Posted November 7, 2010 alright tested everything yesterday. the stator is good but the pickup coil is shot. -Ryan Quote
