robrocks71 Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 I just rebuilt my complete bottom end on my 95. When I was dissasembling I notice the stator was on what I assume is an adjustable plate and was rotated all the way forward. (again I assume full advance) The bike is all stock except for FMF fatty pipes and a K&N filter with no box top. It seems to rev very quickley. My question is... If I retard the timing will I get more mid?? OR what are my results? Thanks in advance for my ignorance. Rob. Quote

Are there little degree marks on the plate ? i know most people run about +4 degrees advanced, thats what i run with pump gas, jetting, pipes and open filters, seems to be most efficient that way, peps up the whole powerband a bit, snappier and doesnt kill your topend too much...I know thats not your exact question, but i'm sure someone will chime in with exactly what you are looking for... Rob. when you say all the way forward,do you mean the plate was turned counter clockwise or clockwise, becuase if it was counter clockwise then I think the timing was in the - negative or retarded, when the plate is turned clockwise, you start going in the + side of the timing.hope this helps Quote
AKheathen Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 i think most plates do 10 degrees both ways....if it was advanced 10 degrees, that could be bad. on the other hand, if it's a stock modified plate, then it could be only advanced +5.5 or less, which is a decent setting for low and mid-range power, but takes a tad off the top-end power, maybe not noticeable, though. robrocks71 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 I will try and pull the flywheel off this weekend and take a picture. Thanks for the replies. Quote
J-Madd Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 You don't have to remove the flywheel to see the degree marks on the plate. Quote
