flash75 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Did my first oil change about a week ago and today I found a fairly large amount of oil on the floor under the banshee. I did a quick check and the drain plug doesnt feel wet with oil but not 100%. When I filled it with new oil I think i may have overfilled a bit. I checked the level with the dipstick screwed in, now I know you need to check it with the dipstick NOT screwed in. Oil was a little above the line with the stick screwed in so maybe a bit too much oil. Could the oil on the floor simply be the excess that has overflowed from somewhere? is this possible? is there an overflow or a way the oil could escape if the level was too high? If its just too much I will syphon some off until its right. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 was it real low before change? look for leak at shifter ,sprocket , kicker , and look by clutch arm. All else fails, clean engine good and llok close. Could be gasket on drain plug. Quote
flash75 Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 OK, just had some time to take a look and clean up the mess on the garage floor When I looked under the bike I saw some dripping from one of the tubes running from the bottom of the carbs. I also noticed that the petcock was in the RES position, usually I have it OFF when stored..its OFF now Im still a bit new to 2-stroke but im guessing that it was fuel mix keaking through the tube and onto the floor. Only thing is that the stuff on the floor was too thick to be fuel mix, its was really oily. Is it possible that it IS fuel mix and maybe the petrol evaporated to leave just the oil? This is what im guessing but would be could to get another opinion. I also checked the engine case and drain plug and it was dry, no leaks. Quote
