Im plan on purchasing a set of stock cylinders.. and im gettin a stock head with it also.. I currently have a cool head with 22cc domes i beleive.. Would a milled stock head benefit me better on a stock bore , unported. rather then the cool head? Plus i could sell the cool head for sum extra cash... Ive already gotten some answeres and opinions.. Id like some more...

Thanx in advance BHQ

Here we go banghead

What? Give me your opinion.. I aint looking to make my bike all badass.. I wont be taking it over stock cylinder size... I just heard a milled stock head, does the same as a cool head.. it builds compression...

A milled stock head does add compression just like a Cool Head, but it does not add coolant capacity, which may or may not cool the bike better. If the head you have is from Pro Design, you will have to remove the head studs from your old cylinders and install them in your new ones. If it is a cool head from one of the other manufacturers you may not have to change the studs. I run a cut and chambered stock head on my bike and have been happy with it for almost 20 years.

I see your kinda new here so you missed all the drama that was created by a member over this same question. Now to answer your question in my opinion I would keep the coolhead and sell the stocker. The coolhead is better then a stock head because.

1- they use orings instead of gaskets which means they can be reused unlike gaskets.

2- they have changeable domes which means you can change compression very simply.

3- the word is that they run cooler but this is under debate by some people

4- up the road if or when you decide to step up to a 4mil all you have to do is have some domes cut.

5- they look much cooler then a stocker.

If you do a search on coolheads you'll find the thread, but be prepared to do alot of reading. Also a milled head still isnt as efficient as a cool head unless you have it rechambered also.

He's only saying that because there was a HUGE, blowout and heated discussion regarding cool heads by any manufacturer vs. stock heads.

So that being said, you asked, here's my personal opinion...which, if you put together with a dollar you could order off the value menu @ McDonalds. :)

I like the cool head by Chariot. I've also used the Coolhead by Noss.

Both are site sponsors and build a quality product.

I like the Chariot for a few reasons over the Noss head.

1. Less Orings. It is a one piece shell instead of two pieces. Simple.

2. Looks. I like the flat profile with raised center for the dome tops/spark plugs.

3. Hardware. The 14mm chrome acorn nuts and brass washers to install the head are very nice, as well as the stainless bolts to hold the water neck on the back.

4. Chariot is based out of Michigan. I like to support local guys when I can IF their product is up to snuff and quality. Chariot's products are.

Both are quality designs. Both use Orings which seal better IMO.

Once someone got a dome for their bike they liked and performed well, I really haven't seen anyone change domes, so the "you can tune it with different domes" argument doesn't hold a lot of water with me....but, you could if you wanted to. With a stocker, what you get is what you got.

ON gas trail bikes all the way to alky burning drag bikes, I've never seen a cooling difference...and I ran a stock cut head on my alky drag bike a while ago.

An aftermarket head with domes is going to set you back a few hundred.

A properly machined, chambered stock head will set you back 50 to 100.

I can't tell you which is best for you, and most people have their own opinion on this just like if they drive a Ford, Chevy or Dodge....

First off I want to say that I respect your opinions a ton daj, but I just wanted to say that I always run an 18cc dome but the 2 times I've been to the hatfield mccoy trail system I changed out my 18s for 20s so I could run pump gas. Places like that where you ride so far from town to town and pull right up to the pump for gas its a little difficult to find race gas. But again you for sure know your shit daj and in no way am I trying to argue any point. I'm just stating what I've done and by the way to the OP I agree about the chariot head. I know in my sig it says a vitos hemi head but that head is made by chariot.

No....I completely respect that. Very few people do exactly what you do, but my point was sometimes it's used as a selling point but in reality people don't swap domes very often once they find a set they like and that works.

You are absolutely the exception, and I used to ride long trail loops where you were stuck bringing two stroke oil with you, filling up at the pump and then dumping in the amount of oil needed and shaking the bejeezus out of your bike to "mix" it up. :)

A better selling point along those lines would be, in my opinion, if you TRASH a dome from wear, internal grenade, detonation, etc., you can replace just the dome and normally don't have to replace the whole head.....:)

I'm with you 100% on your reasoning...it's just a minor occurrence IMO.

And thank you for the props...!

No shit stirred bro no worries. I know you say your happy with performance today but believe me and everyone here will agree you wont be happy as soon as some piped and cammed 4poke hands you your ass. Then you'll be right back asking what to do next to beat him. This shit happens here every day, But what ever you do I hope your happy. Keep us posted. Do you know what bore your on? I have a set of vitos forged superstock that are for 20 over I'll give you a sweet deal on they're pretty much brand new. I removed them because I had porting done they only have like 10 hrs on them at most. Also one more thing is if you sell the cool head your only going to get enough out of it to get that stock head milled and rechambered plus shipping. So what are you going to gain from this.

my Pro Design Cool Head

Do you have to change the stud on those?

If the motor came with the cool head on it ,and you go back to stock ,

you may have to change the studs.
