This was the winter I would start rounding up the parts to start my project. While trying to gather info on what were the best pieces, I bought a complete bike instead to use the motor in my banshee. The bike was advertised as a 10 mil cub and price was reasonable so I bit. The first thing we did was tear the motor down to check the condition of the parts. The motor wasn't in the best shape so I'm glad we tore into it but I wanted to post some pics and get your opinions.

Thats a good crank. So thats a good start to nowing its got some good parts in it. Is it a Billet Twister Crank?

I'm assuming it's billet. It has no casting marks anywhere, real smooth. It appears to be a job to get a 14mil in the case, does this weaken the case to much for longevity? I'm not looking for a lifetime motor but I don't want junk either.

Whats up with the transmission? I see it's been cut but I don't know how to tell which gears and if it's duneable or not. The star does have one of the pins ground off also.

Nothing? Sure could use some help.

Hard to help you with things we can't see. :shrugani:

The pin weld on the shift star most likely means the shift pattern is changed. (Maybe neutral down?) Looks like alot of welding for a 10 mill....But tha crank looks like they spent some cash, so that's a good sign.

I've got alot of pictures John but it appeared I was the only one posting here. I've since called Twister, really nice folks and asked for some info on the crank. The numbers in the first pic say that it's a 14mil stroke, and has Hotrods 125mm rods. The last set of numbers are the total number of cranks produced which from this they can tell you who they sold it to and when. Turns out this crank was built in '06 and was rebuilt in '08. The size of the stroke explains the welds on the crankcase.

Now that I have the crank figured out I still would like some input on the transmission. I can see that three of the gears have been cut for what I assume to be an override. How can you tell if it's a duneable override and which gears are overridden? Also in the pics you can see that the drum has been regrooved. Whats the story here? Thanks for telling me the pattern might be changed, I'll put the trans back in the case and see what I can find out. Is there anything else in these pics that someone can tell me that maybe I have missed?

I'll post some more pics tommorrow.

Without seeing the other shaft its hard to tell which cut it is,def overridden though, cut drum with at least 1-4 overidden,no springs on forks though and it doesnt look dunable,if the front fork groove is cut almost 360 around the drum its a n-down ,also if the pin on the star has been redrilled

so what are ytou worried about??

the trans is not a duneable put it back in the cases and shift it through the gears count how many times you can shift it and still turn the trans with drive ( both shafts turn) i assume its possibly a n down and its a something -5 the dog missing is so it ownt shift into 6th. and also how the N down works.. the cases look great they are weld'd and epoxy's it looks like devcon epoxy and thats alky safe.

it will be a powerhouse for a dunner.. if your wanting a better trans look into a 1-5 duneable OR if a duneable is not an option you can do what i call a mx trans with all 6 gears.
