So about two weeks ago I broke a clutch cable and had to ride it home by lightly popping it into gear. I put a new one in and found that when I put it into second gear and cracked the throttle just a bit it would buck foreword and rev in short spikes of power like it did not want to be in that gear. I took it all apart , checked for wear, grooving on the clutch basket and even replaced the star and put a pro-shift on it. Still no second gear!!!! I'm I missing something here? Could this be some sort of air leak, wiring, or fuel issue? If so, why only second gear?

Sounds like a bent shift fork,

Do they bend in ways that you can't tell just by looking at them? I looked at them, but hell I don't really know what I'm looking for. It's only my second time splitting the cases.

Yea, pretty hard to tell just by looking. Put it in second gear with the cases split and see if the gear is going in all the way.

Do you know if all shifting forks are the same from year to year. Will RZ350 ones work? Thanks for your help.

The OE RZ forks had a roller on them instead of dowel looking pins.

I believe if they are truly original factory RZ forks you'll need the RZ Drum.

That being said...if they're replacement RZ forks, yes, I'm pretty sure they'll work.

To be honest....you can get GOOD used shift forks for cheap, just another alternative.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea if these are RD or RZ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270578786659&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT
