banshee0818 Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Hey guys, A few months back I bought a 88' Banshee, and long story short the guy got the best of me and got me to buy a banshee with a thrown together top end, and a bad crank(being new to the 2stroke engine world, wasnt easy to fool mebanghead..........but after a month of saving money and tearing the entire thing down, and putting it back together with a new crank, and new wiseco top end, its ready to go. Im running 110octane for the break in, to avoid leaning out, and 40:1 Klotz, it started right up after about 10kicks, and after some playing with the carbs, both sides are firing perfect. I have already looked up info on the break in procedure, but Is there any other small details or things to do, on a fresh rebuild to check and make sure is OK, so I dont end up costing myself big time again because of my stupidity. Any Small tips can help. Thanks, Quote
madjimmax Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 First off octane doesnt have nothing to do with being lean or not. Before you do your breakin post up a list of your mods so we can give you a close jetting size. Do you know what jets are in the carbs right now? This is very important info before you decide to breakin. If you shit is running lean the only thing that your going to breakin is your wallet. Race gas or high octane fuel is only needed when running high compression motors or highly advanced timing to help to stop detonation. If you dont have enough compression or timing to require race gas the only your doing is wasting about $5 a gallon on something that is not needed. Does this thing have the stock head or cool head, aftermarket pipes, what kinda air filter, is the lid on the airbox or maybe no airbox. there is some of the info we would need to get you going in the right direction. But anyways good luck and let us know whats up. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Make sure you retorque the head a couple of times after it is warmed up. Quote
banshee0818 Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 Hey guys, for mods, I have boyesen reeds, bills pipes, stock silencers, the guy before me did some minor porting and polishing. It has stock heads, pistons are now .075, right now it is jetted at 320(im in michigan,, 70 degree weather.), which when it started sounded a little bit rich, but id rather have it there then getting to lean for a little more performance. It also has a boost bottle, which im looking for a stock tube to replace it. When i was talking about the 110 octane, with the stock compression should actually lower the performance, and help avoid going lean? I thought thats what would happen, if not, i only bought a gallon so it didnt hurt my wallet to bad Quote

madjimmax Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Personally I think that still sounds too lean I would go with at least a 340 to a 350 and do a plug chop. I was running 340s before I was ported, but I am at sealevel. Thats why i would say 340 to 350. And your pilot should 27.5 on all aftermarket pipes Quote
