ninjamaster Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 I really think I want a Banshee that I can mod up again. Are these more reliable than raptors, grizzlys, yfz450's etc? I figured the two stroke had less things to fail and would be easier to work on? Will a two stroke require less maint. in a diaster situation as there is less fluids to change? I am looking into a Banshee for SHTF and was wondering if it was the Glock of quads. Will these go up in value in the future since they are no longer made? Quote

Pat the one the only Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 plus a 250r costs half as much to rebuild, cause it has only one piston, and you can make it a 310 easily, and if you noticed the freestylers from the early 2000's all used 250r's not banshee's, watch HEUVOS III, and you'll know what i mean. How long has it been since you owned a banch? Quote
TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Just as reliable if set up right. Possibly more reliable. 100% easier to work on IMO. I love them. Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Absolutely easier to work on, nowhere near as reliable. Quote

You'll want a 4-stroke utility ATV, not a two stroke sport ATV. One thing to SERIOUSLY consider if you're if you're seriously gonna use this for a disaster situation; The last thing you'll want to worry about is correctly pre-mixing your fuel. You'll take fuel when and where you can get it. As for fluids to change, you keep a single oil change worth of crankcase and transmission oil on hand and change it the first chance you get following the disaster and then forget about it, for a year if necessary. keeping a couple of quarts of 2-cycle oil on hand may last you a couple of days, a week maybe and then what? You don't say how long you're planning for but if you think about Katrina, a couple of months is very conceivable. As much as I love my Banshee, it's got NO PLACE to carry anything even with my six-pack rack. Ever try to follow a smart ass on grizzly with a Banshee? The first thing they do is head for deep mud or water to see if they can make you flood your engine. Quote
Darthwall Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 I have rode 250r's and banshees along tine the 250r's are alot less maintenance no doubt about it it I grew up on honda atc and atv's never had a prob banshee's stock run well the right tuning great but if you stick a cr 500 motor in a 250r with alil work its a monster Quote
madjimmax Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Absolutely easier to work on, nowhere near as reliable. Couldnt of said it better myself Quote
RagunCajun Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Anything is easy to work on once you know what you are doing. Quote
Coupelx Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Absolutely easier to work on, nowhere near as reliable. we have a winner! Quote
sheeowner31 Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 lol wohhhh wohhh wohhhh banshees are still the best quad ever remember there the shit hands down and they are very reliable imo never ever had a problem with the 2 ive owned Quote
Burt Reynolds Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Banshees are not as reliable as modern fourstrokes. Way easier to work on though. However if you REALLY stay on top of banshee maintenance, and never ride it when its not 100% functional, you can get a banshee motor to hold together just as long as a modern 450. If you maintain both raptors and 300 and 400ex's will last much longer Quote

Will these go up in value in the future since they are no longer made? tell you what, i haven't read all the other posts and reply's that people wrote and sorry if i reply some of it, but i was proven that in a shop there were more 4 strokes than 2 strokes. The guy said the banshee was pretty reliable, but on the other hand he said the 450's break down quite a bit. Proof, he had 12 4 strokes, and 3 banshee's and all of the banshee's were built and really old. IDK to me that shows that the 2 strokes are still pretty reliable Quote
RagunCajun Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 If a bike doesnt break, you either ride like a pansy or dont ride it at all I will get a 4 stroke one of these days. They are nice and the power delivery is different. Keepin the shee of course Quote
