Morning guys. I have an issue with my clutch, when I pull in the lever, it doesnt engage the clutch. Any ideas?

The engine just went back in after a rebuild, and the clutch seems really easy to pull in!

like the post which attaches the cable to the clutch itself has an issue or something?

did you leave the ball bearing out?

Im checking right now, thanks a tonne

The ball bearing is in there, like it should be, but surprising that the clutch rod will just pull right out of the bottom end though once I take the bracket off it that fastens it to the upper case? That cant be normal, is it? If that rod isnt engaged correctly onto the clutch assembly, do I have to spilt the cases again to get it right or?

yes the hold down is the only thing holding it in. make sure the lever is clocked right, make sure the cable is fastened on the case right, make sure the outer hub is seated properly and the adjuster screw is set right. nothing else could be wrong with it if all that is right and the rod and bearing is in place and the arm moves when you pull the lever.

i will check it out, but the rod thru the center of the clutch where the bearing is, does not move when I pull the clutch in?

Lets walk this through from start to finish. I hope that I am not being to elementary, but the stupid stuff will get ya.

This list of stuff is after you have installed, push rod first then the ball. Make extremly sure you put the clutch pressure plate on correctly. If looking at the plate and there is a gap between the plate and the friction plate, take it off and rotate it to the right until it is flush.

1)Cable connected to lever, adjuster screwed all the way in.

2) Route cable to the right side of bike, passing over clutch cover.

3) Attach clutch cable to clutch release lever, bracket is bolted on.

4) Clutch cable bracket holder is on and cable is installed correctly.

5) Adjust clutch adjuster until arrow from clutch release is aligned with arrow on case.

6) Adjust clutch perch lever to 1/4 play.

7) Pull clutch lever and watch clutch rod and ball move out clutch pressure plate.

Thanks Tim,

At this point nothing is elementary.

The ball does not move at all when the clutch is pulled in. The only thing that I noticed when the cases were reassembled, was that the clutch rod which goes thru the cases, could be pulled completely out when I removed the bracket intended to hold it in. This did not get removed the last time the cases were disassembled, so Im a little lost.

Its also super easy to pull in the clutch, hence (probably) cause its not moving the clutch plates?

I am at the cottage this weekend, as it is July 1st long weekend, like for your July 4th, but I will go thru the other symptoms when I get home tomorrow, thanks for your input.
