Fireroad Express Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 they banned the import of all leaded race fuels in canada for an indefinate period (at least in nova scotia). I went down to the local race shop to get some and thats what i was told. so im shit out of luck as far as a supply of C-12 goes. i live on a lake and there are a few guys that have float planes and i found a fella that will hook me up with some 100LL av gas. not sure if i should get another set of domes cut or try cutting back the timing to compensate for the lower octane. if i do have detonation how will i know it . i never heard it before. is it noticably loud or do you keep checking the pistons? im running 195 psi in each cylinder at sea level. +6 advance on timing. this situation really sucks. any advice on this would be much appeciated. thanks in advance Quote
J-Madd Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 You'll probably have to change domes to get the compression back down. As far as hearing detonation - sometimes you can, lots of times you can't. You don't want to wait to see if you hear it before correcting a problem, imo. Quote
jbooker82 Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Yea in the banshee I would emagine it is real hard to hear. I have herd it on my mustang. Hot summer day Lugging it in gear around a corner with out pushing in on the clutch, then push on the gas. It sounds like marbles, or ball bearings rattling around on top of the pistons. I think it would be extreemly hard to hear on a banshee. VP makes unleaded race fuel. Quote
camatv Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 You can hear deto in a banshee with quiet pipes over 150ish they will probably deto you might be able to get the comp high but combat deto with special dome's.. anychance of getting alky? you can mix that with fuel to raise the octaine also but you will need to treat it like a full alky bike and jett for it. robert0762 Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I had very slight deto in one cyl due to a leaking o-ring. I did not hear ne thing but it back the plug out really quick. Quote
banshee67 Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 its rare to hear a banshee having a meltdown like that but its more like a feeling on the bike. if you have just the one bike then you should know how it runs. if your worried take it for a QUICK ride nothing more. if it doesnt feel right then jet. if that doesnt seem to help after a few tries then DROP THE COMPRESSION! unless you can raise your octain the that is your only option. this is just my opinion Quote
