Ok guys well I checked the yellow and black wires comming from the stator and got nothing. Sounds like the stator went bad. Are they exspensive to replace? Id be doing the labor my self.

you can get them for around $100,little more to much more depending.do not get a ricky stator ever,rm stator is a little better,i have a moose and havent had a problem.i would try and get one of here in nice shape (stocker that is).stockers are much better quality than anything aftermarket, well besides pvl,but then u wouldnt have lighting anyway lol.its not hard, first i would pull the stator cover and ur gonna have to remove the nut and get a flywhhel puller.they are like $13.pull the flywheel and clean the stator and flywheel.itss possible its very dirty and rusty and not making good connections.make sure there are no broken wires on the stator itself and running out of the stator to the harness you were around checking.if you see that its a sure sign thats the prob.if no broken wires but its dirty and you cleaned it,put the flywheel back on making sure the woodruff key is in the right place then tighten it back on.start it and check again.have the light switch on when you test the yellow.

If you have 26V, it sounds like your regulator is bad and therefore the bulbs are blown. The stator will put out an unlimited amount of voltage, it is the regulator's job to shunt the excess voltage and make sure that the lights don't see more than 12V nominal voltage. Since your voltage is jumping all over the place, it sounds like maybe the voltage regulator is only working part time, I would make sure that the voltage regulator has a good ground. If the ground is good, try a different regulator. You could borrow one from a friend as there is only one part number for all years of US Banshees. Install it and see if it runs at a steady voltage that is less than16V. If it does that is the problem and you need a new reg. and new light bulbs. Get a genuine Yamaha regulator and I would try the new bulbs that Rocky Mt. ATV has, they put out a much brighter(whiter) light and they are only $10 apiece instead of the more expensive Yamaha bulbs.

cmon dude, unlimited amount of voltage lol.i dont think so

The stator will put out an unlimited amount of voltage,

Damm, and I spent all that money on a generator, for the power outages during hurricane season.

When all I had to do was wire my house up to the banshee.

You are right, it won't put out an unlimited amount. But it will produce a lot more voltage than the light bulbs will handle if the regulator is not functioning properly. My point was that there is nothing in the stator assembly to limit the output voltage, thus the output is "unlimited", the only maximum is how much voltage that the windings can produce at a given RPM. The stator is capable of producing far more than 12V at high RPM because it needs ro be able to produce at least 12V at lower RPM. The bike voltage is limited(or regulated) by the voltage regulator which is seperate from the stator, unlike your car in which the stator and regulator are all enclosed in 1 assembly called an alternator.

Stator are not cheap. But I would not by an aftermarket one, especially one from Ricky Stator, RM Stator, or anything else made in China, Tiawan, etc.. A used genuine Yamaha stator is better than a brand new aftermarket stator.
