Im replacing second gear in my transmission but since I already have the cases apart I want to replace everything I need to. So what is the best way to tell if my crank bearings are bad, my shift forks, and all my other gears. thanks fellas

Check that bearings turn smoothly with no excessive noise. Look closely for pits, galling, discoloration from heat. Same viual inspection for trans, look at forks for bending, check shafts forks ride on for straightness. Look at gears for chips , etc. Look at dogs for burrs or excess wear. Hope this helps. Your results may vary.

also check your crank arms for any slop or play while the bottom of the arms are on the down stroke. if they are not tight and solid you may want to consider replacing that while you are in there. i had this happen to me while a buddy and i were were looking into a tranny issue also.
