kswayze Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 This is probably a stupid question but I need to know. When doing a compression check, should the needle stay at the compression point or does it slowly leak out? Quote
SNTBANSHEE Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 As you kick ,the guage should go up until it reaches top compression and then hold that pressure until you release it. Quote
someone82 Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 You probably have a leak somewhere on your gauge, the check valve, hose, etc... etc.. Try another gauge and it should hold the pressure. Quote
andrew3160 Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 (edited) Keep in mind it is best to check compression at operating temp or close to it so the rings can expand. I read righ at 100 psi each cyl cold which is a little low. I am told that you gain about 20% of your compression when you test it when the motor is warm. Sounds like you have a leak in your tester if you are leaking pressure. I would check all your fittings on your compression gauge. I have also noticed a difference in compression from a high quality tester and a cheap tester. Edited April 22, 2010 by andrew3160 Quote
