jrmarquez.702 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 I have a toyota tundra and i was wondering what psi you guys are leaving in your tires so you dont get stuck at the dunes. Its 4wd and we are going to try to make a bar so we can groom the launch for the sand drags. I heard somewhere that guys are leaving 5psi, is that safe? Quote
bansheesandrider Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 When I take the truck and trailer out on the sand I air down to 20-25, if the camper is on the truck, then I air down to 20. It is a 95 F250HD with a 9.5 ft. camper and a 6.5X12 flatbed trailer. My Gross Combined Weight is around 9300lbs going down the road with 2 Banshees, my crossbed toolbox and a generator on the trailer. I would not recomend airing down to 5 psi unless you have beadlock wheels, actually I would not go below 15 psi without beadlocks, because when you turn a corner you will roll the tire bead right off the wheel. dunner250 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 I don't like going below 20psi. But there has been times that 14-12 psi is the only thing that is going to get me unstuck. Thats with a chevy 1/2 ton towing a 7 by 16 enclosed trailer. I went between 20 to 25 on the trailer. I start at 20 and when they start to spin I just stop and air them way down. There is nothing worse then getting stuck on a busy weekend with no one helping and your wife flapping her lips on a hot day while your trying to get unstuck. Quote
jrmarquez.702 Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 That's true! I mostly only tow in a few banshees to the hill, but when I'm towing the rest of the stuff on the road I keep my tires at 60 psi. Thanks guys, I think that I'll try 20 psi next time. Now that I think about it, the guy that said go to 5 psi had beadlocks. Quote
