AdrenalineJunky Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 Man I cannot get this thing tuned. I get it where it idles where I want it but still sluggish from 0 - 1/4 throttle. Then a little bit later it starts idling alot higher. I turn the idle down and it's fine for a little bit and then it goes down too far and will die. Above 1/4 throttle it screams, just can't get that 0-1/4 circuit right. I had it idling what seemed to be good after installing brand new plugs. I pulled plugs and they were all black soot. Quote

Sounds like you're rich on the idle circuit, your idle mixture screws can be used here to fine tune the idle mixture, these should have little to do with the actual bike idle speed but typically they're set at 1.5 turns out then fine tuned from there. Running them out more should lean the idle circuit out, do you have oil dripping and tons of smoke coming out the exhaust when it's idling? Also what size is your pilot jet? Quote
bansheesandrider Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Yes, what is your pilot jet size? When setting the idle mixture, start at 1.5 or 1.75 turns out and then adjust them equally for the highest idle speed. Once the mixture is set correctly, go back and adjust the idle speed screws for the desired idle speed. Quote
AdrenalineJunky Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 I just installed 27.5 pilots. I know the air mixture screw is to fine tune. I had it like 2 turns out but I can't get it to idle right. It is not smoking alot no. It runs perfect except when I think I got the idle where I want it after revving it it will not idle back down to where I had it ( like an air leak or lean) or then when I idle it back down then after a few minutes it will idle way too low and die. AdrenalineJunky Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 Makes no sense if there's an airleak makin it lean why is it so rich on the plug. Could I spray some carb cleaner around the carb boots to see if that's where the leak is? Just looking for ideas. Quote

AdrenalineJunky Posted April 4, 2010 Author Report Posted April 4, 2010 This thing falls on it's face if you gas it from an idle then it kinda sputters and then it kicks in and screams. I guess I will pull it apart make sure pilots didn't get something in them. Confused it's running rich but yet will act lean when idle stays up higher than normal. Quote
AdrenalineJunky Posted April 4, 2010 Author Report Posted April 4, 2010 I got the air mixture screw way out also, I'll have to count how many but it's probably like 3 turns out, you can see couple threads on the screw. Quote
