jacquesraney Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 I have a set of fmf fattys with powercore 2's.. i have pistons ,heads ,domes, and run 100 octane leaded... ive had it for 3 years and have never replaced the packing. I notice it leakes black residue out the back of the silencers..(when i run it good) is this normal... ? runnnin too rich.. ? I use castor 927.. 4oz per gallon.. will I notice a gain in power if replaced.. ?how many hours should this be done.?.. bought used .. runs great! Quote
tundish2800 Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 If i were you i would repack them its cheap. There are no power gains' but it will absorbs some of the oil coming out of the silencer. Quote
AKheathen Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 actually, there is a noticeable lowend gain from doing it. Quote
tundish2800 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 actually, there is a noticeable lowend gain from doing it. Not to be a dick but how do you gain power from it? So do i lose power if i have no silencers? That would mean that oofs with no silencers lose power? Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Not necessarily loose power, but will move power curve towards top-end loosing low-end. If that makes sense. lol Quote
AKheathen Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 DICK!......... ...haha, no, that is 2 dofferenet scinarios you are comparing. the silencer chamber is more comparable to a tuned stinger, when packed. when the packing blows out, the backpressure gets messed up and you loose a bit of scavenging in the lowend, hence power. not so noticable, is the mid-top loss because there is now a stronger puls reflecting back into the flow path, creating some unwanted restriction. you can actually install some thin coper pipe in the baffle, if you wanted to and it would act like a stinger pipe, lol.
