blastking Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 I have a 2003 Banshee that I cant get to shift ino 2nd gear or higher - only goes from 1st to neutral and back, its like stuck or something . I dont know what the problem is - anybody have any ideas on how to fix her. Appreciate it Steve Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Steve, welcome to HQ bro it sounds like you may need to tear the motor down. it sounds like you might have a bent shift fork causing the problem. i would start by tearing off the clutch cover(kick start side) and look around in there first just to make sure its nothing simple. then after that, it may be necessary to pull the motor and split the cases. locogato11283 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 sounds good. post back with what you find. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 alright i will take a look behind clutch cover- thanks Make sure the shift shaft is properly adjusted- the claw should be centered over the pins on the shift star when it is in gear, not neutral. If that is OK, try turning the star by hand, you will probably have to turn the wheels as Banshees don't like to go through the gears unless the tranny is turning. If it won't engage gears then, it is probably a bent shift fork. Quote

I am thinking of trying this myself - they want 4 hours labor at 75.00 at the shop - Quote

I am thinking of trying this myself - they want 4 hours labor at 75.00 at the shop - is that 75$ for the whole job or per hour? if you got your basic set of tools you could do the job yourself, the only special tool needed is a flywheel puller, the rest is mostly 10/12/14mm bolts and nuts. the only tricky part might be taking the nut off the clutch basket if you dont have a special tool to hold it while you use an impact gun. but the most important tool you will need is a repair manual.........most people like the clymers manuals.
