They do it on alky carbs because you can not get enough fuel to the motor through the main jet and emulsion tube. They can only be drilled so big. Alky motors need more fuel than a carb in stock form can supply. Some of the smaller alky motors can and do get away w/o power jets, but anything above a stock cylinder setup, forget about it. RadarRacing Posted February 19, 2010 Report Share Posted February 19, 2010 Its not needed on a bolt on motor. They are needed on motors that need more fuel on the topend than a mainjet can supply.
