mackay10 Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Im having a problem shifting into third gear. I removed the clutch assembly and shift shaft, when i turn the shift star by hand, it goes into 1st , neutral, 2nd, then feels locked halfway between 2nd and third. It just wont turn anymore. any ideas? I dont want to have to split the case.. Quote

mackay10 Posted February 11, 2010 Author Report Posted February 11, 2010 Sorry man...prolly gonna have to split the cases. thanks for the reply, so price-wise am I better off just getting a used motor somewhere? Quote
bholmes Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Depends on your mechanical ability. I just picked up a tranny for under a hundered bucks shipped off ebay. You can easily dump 1k into a used motor and still come up with one having a few miles on the tranny. I'm not sure what a shop would charge you though. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 You need to be turning the tranny shaft while you are shifting. The way a Banshee tranny works, the gears will not move unless the dogs on the gears mesh properly and things have to be turning for that to happen. If you have any mechanical ability at all you are probably better off repairing what you have. If it is not shifting it is probably a bent or wore shift fork which is relatively cheap, plus if you tear it down and fix any other problems you find, then you know you have a good sound motor/tranny and not somebody else's discarded junk.
