mikee Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Hey everyone, I just got my first banshee, its a second hand one and its an 01 model. I ran it abit around the house and it seemed fine but when i went for a ride on the farm it snuffed out and it had water pouring out of a tube in the front. I think it overheated, I am not sure. I think i didn't put enought oil with the fuel, I had put 50:1 with normal motorcycle oil and I think this caused the engine to over heat? I am not sure. So I brought it home and now it won't start and the kick starter is jammed, I tried to pull the case off the side, where the kick starter is, but i couldn't get it off. This is really annoying me as i just got it. Quote
Infamous039 Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 First of welcome to the world of the Banshee's you will love the bike. 2-stroke oil you should mix at 32:1, look into getting a good reputable oil like cator 927, amsoil, etc. As for the kick starter if it is jam, you may have thrown a bearing in your crank. If so you will have to replace the crank, which could be pricey if you dont know how to do it. I would like recommend you pickup a Clymers repair manual, which will assit you in repairing the bike. If you have any more questions HQ is great site for some assistance. Quote
broncbob Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 You may have seized the engine. Try putting it in 6th gear and rocking it back and forth to see if the engine will turn over.Taking the spark plugs out will help. If the engine turns over, then you have a problem with the kick starter, if not something is wrong with the rotating assembly, and you'll have to dig in farther to find out what is wrong. Quote
Overboost Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 the clutch side cover is always a pain to get off, it likes to stick around the water pump and kick starter. like the others said, if you cannot get it into gear and rock it to get the thing to move even a bit, start posting it for parts, cuz the motor will be a goner. 32:1 mix is safe, on a quality oil, you can get away with 40:1 no problem. I have ran that for years with no issues. are you sure you used 2 stroke oil and not regular motor oil? heard that happening, not good Quote

volcrano Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 so i was putting 50:1 or oil which is for 5L you put 100mls right? i hope so whats the amount for 32:1 in L:mL? 32:1 is exactly 4 oz. per 1 gallon.you should never go past 40:1 and i dont know why some people on here do.the less oil-the less lube.if u got a $500 bottom end bet ur ass its gonna have plenty of oil in the mix.unfortunately it does sound like u locked her up.hope not but overheating with little lubrication is dangerous!
