Shee1234 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Hey new to the site - hope someone can help with a little problem. Backround: bought a 1995 banshee a few weeks ago for my new project toy -was running but bogging before power band and backfiring before clipping into power band. The guy i bought it from was running no airfilter. I took the carbs off and cleaned - pulled head and measured bore and inspected cylinders, put in new reeds and replaced all exhaust gaskets/o-rings. The exhaust was leaking right at the carbs and with no airfilter, i was thinking this was the main issue - it was rich even with stock jetting and no airfilter so i assume this is beacause it was getting crap air (you think?). QUESTION 1: Put her back together - Now it will start within three kicks and idles fine but stalls out as soon as i give even the smallest amount of throttle. The right carb drains through the bottom drain hose (but did that before too and still sucked it up with throttle) Also just before starting i powerwashed it off (didnt nail carbs or intake with the water but noticed a bottom vent tube had come off) would water in the carb alone cause these symptons? If excuding the water issue - should i start with replacing the fuel valve assembly (the float height seems to be right on the money at 20mm and lets assumes carbs and jets are good and clean.) Question: 2: After flushing coolant it only took about 1.75 Qts? - I read the other thread on this topic but still wondering what the deal is. I pulled jug plugs, had someone hold front brake and raised her ass up over my head to drain water pump and laid it on its side and rocked several time till nothing came out of jug plugs. Of course without throttle i didnt really get it all that hot. Think once it gets hot it will suck into cylinder sleeves and will have to add more? if not then what . plan on checking the water pump anyway though before taking it out for a real ride. Thanks - I know it was long winded but wanted to provide the details so you hopefully wouldnt have to ask. Quote
AKheathen Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 wow, that is alot to sift through.....so, first, it sounds like your float is still leaking. first, tap the bowl with the but of a screwdriver and see if the float is sticking. next, set it at 21mm with it resting upside-down and no gasket. so, you say it's stock jetting(200)? if you have removed the snorkel, lid, or airbox, you need to rejet the carbs. next, unplug the tors controll box and wire going to the clutch lever. the box is small, and located under the gas tank, to the left of the coil. the 1.75 quarts is normal, just run it, and check it,, or are you sayin it leaks into the cylinders? [/quot K screw everything else - I think you nailed it with the TORS. After i test rode it and brought it home i noticed an electrical connection was not hooked up and i hooked it back up with out even thinking about it - just checked and sure enough it was the TORS unit - so hopefully (an probably thats it) - wish i wouldnve posted before i pulled the carbs off tonight ---oh well hopefully if thats it you just saved me some $$$ trying to replace each jet at a time. THANKS! gues Ill get a removal kit and get them ugly things off of there now that i know there faulty. Quote

Shee1234 Posted January 27, 2010 Author Report Posted January 27, 2010 Thanks guys. Put it back together after disconecting again and i have throttle back. On the slide thing - Isnt it kinda hard to put the slide in backward if you have the guide screw out enough to engage into the slot in the slide? Anyways i have more gap in the front than in the back - no real way to reverse that with the slide guide there unless it were put in upside down...huh? Quote
AKheathen Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 well, you can get right and left mixed up if you don't pay attention and then they will go in backwards........looks like you pay attention to the details, though........one reason i normally suggest re-syncing the carbs any time you have the caps off...
