Hey new to the site - hope someone can help with a little problem. Backround: bought a 1995 banshee a few weeks ago for my new project toy -was running but bogging before power band and backfiring before clipping into power band. The guy i bought it from was running no airfilter. I took the carbs off and cleaned - pulled head and measured bore and inspected cylinders, put in new reeds and replaced all exhaust gaskets/o-rings. The exhaust was leaking right at the carbs and with no airfilter, i was thinking this was the main issue - it was rich even with stock jetting and no airfilter so i assume this is beacause it was getting crap air (you think?).
QUESTION 1: Put her back together - Now it will start within three kicks and idles fine but stalls out as soon as i give even the smallest amount of throttle. The right carb drains through the bottom drain hose (but did that before too and still sucked it up with throttle) Also just before starting i powerwashed it off (didnt nail carbs or intake with the water but noticed a bottom vent tube had come off) would water in the carb alone cause these symptons? If excuding the water issue - should i start with replacing the fuel valve assembly (the float height seems to be right on the money at 20mm and lets assumes carbs and jets are good and clean.)
Question: 2: After flushing coolant it only took about 1.75 Qts? - I read the other thread on this topic but still wondering what the deal is. I pulled jug plugs, had someone hold front brake and raised her ass up over my head to drain water pump and laid it on its side and rocked several time till nothing came out of jug plugs. Of course without throttle i didnt really get it all that hot. Think once it gets hot it will suck into cylinder sleeves and will have to add more? if not then what . plan on checking the water pump anyway though before taking it out for a real ride.
Thanks - I know it was long winded but wanted to provide the details so you hopefully wouldnt have to ask.
