I live in Jamestown Ohio and have a ton of places to ride somewhat close to home and family also live by me. I love riding everywhere and want to maybe try to legalize my shee for the street. Pics of what you had to do would be great. I have a feeling that it needs brake light and turn signals and maybe mirrors. I would love to roll by the cops on it and see the look on their faces. Even though the jamestown police are cool with me. Let me know whatcha got.

I would check into it up there, but I am pretty sure you cant run a two stroke on the streets here. I have seen YFZ 450's that are street legal. could be wrong though!

I am not sure about in ohio, but in mi you have to have a differential in the rear end or it can not be made street legal...... I have seen a few guys install a street bike swing arm and rear tire on a four wheeler to make it street legal. they said it was the only way around the stupid differential law.....

good luck man, I would contact your police department and see what they say... I am sure you will have to get it inspected before you can register it.

Let us know what ya come up with.

You cannot make a quad street legal in ohio,ky,or indiana, I have studied this exstensively. There are only a few states it can be made street legal in,arizona, and i think utah and one other. But dont quote me on what 3 states it is.

The reason for atv's not being legal in most (not all) other states has nothing to do with emmisions or being a 2 stroke. There are loads of 2 stroke street bikes that are legal in all states. The first prototypes of the dodge neon were 2 strokes. It has to do with wheelbase and not having safety equipment. Its because most of the dmv's view anything with 4 wheels in the same rules category as cars, and cars must have a certain wheelbase, seatbelts ect ect. This is why some trikes and 3 wheel machines like that bombardier 3 wheeler thing can be made legal, they fall into the motorcycle category and not the car.

I actualy used to chat with a guy who had a street legal banshee, and he said it was more of a pain in the ass than it was worth. he said he got pulled over basicaly every single time he took it out,and had to explain to the cops and show the registration.

There was also an issue of dirtwheels where they made a 450r street legal in arizona and did a road test.

I have been researching it and it is definitely going to be a bigger PITA than its worth plus I have two friends that joined the local police and I will just talk to the cops and see what they say. I have already talked to two of them one said just keep it reasonable and dont ride late and the other said keep it off the road or else... but SHE is strict as shit.

Yup here in good old AZ you just have to stay off of the main highways. The only thing you need is a horn, mirror, lights, and a break light. There is a company that makes a kit to add to the quad to make it street able. The only prob I see; if you live in a big town/city. Whats keeping it from getting it thrown into the back of a pickup? I looked into this for my rhino. Oh and tires. They will get eaten up unless you have some HD tires. So all in all. Yeah its cool to think about riding down the street with your quad and all but you also have to look at the expense of it as well. You will have to pay for registration and insurance and prob some more things as well. I know that most states are going to make you start Registering your ATV's to help pay for riding areas/forest. That is what they did to us here in AZ. But its cool because any other start that needs a sticker/registration your good through your state. But then I got to thinking about what about having it licensed in another state. But then I ran into your not a residence. But I own a house there. And so on. But its just a big loop to try to get the quads on the road.
