Hi guys,

I've recently had a bit of trouble with the banshee and I've narrowed it down to the CDI box. I live in Australia and parts are VERY expensive, so I try to buy everything from the US on ebay. I can't decide between these two, the Dyna Tek or the GYTR. The only thing stopping me from getting the Dyna Tek is the fact that it's programmable and I have no idea about programing ignition curves and stuff.

My question is does anyone know if the Dyna Tek comes with base maps that would be safe to run on the banshee? That way I can learn how to program it down the line.

Cheers,

Mike

don't hesitate to get the dyna fs ftw! it has 4 curves already programed into it. 1 stock, and 3 motified curves. if you need better curves later, then you can have it programed by someone or buy the cable and program new curves in yourself.

Just quickly, does anybody know what the 3 modified curves are suited to? The plans for my engine are small at the moment, basically some breathing mods. Toomey T5's, V-Force 3 Rad Valves, boost bottle, K&N Filter and Powerlid. Would any of these curves be suited to a setup like that or am I better of running the standard curve with such basic mods?

My opinion, get a stocker.

Unless you have a dyno to tune the bike and make custom curves...a cheap timing plate will net you the same difference for less money.

That's true, but I have to get one anyway so I may as well get a good one.

In Australia standard CDI's are VERY expensive. A mate of mine owns a dealership and he said off the top of his head they are $500ish. So my only real option is to bring one in from America and once you factor in shipping it isn't a huge difference from standard to dyna tek.

I just want to make sure I can run my bike with it (both in standard and lightly modified form). Also I'm just interested what the 3 "modified" maps are suited for.

brand new OEM they're expensive here too.

Get a used one on Ebay....save your money.

Without a dyno...no one can tell you which, if any of the curves, suit your motor the best.

It'll be real world testing...and I'd bet you could barely feel the difference between the three curves.

When I ran one at the track, any of the curves preset from the factory didn't net anything different in my timed 300 foot runs.

So...I stand by my statement of unless you have the tools to tune it/program it, it's a waste of money.

A stock used OEM CDI and timing plate are a better investment.

No one in the US buys brand new OEM CDIs from the dealer, they're about 300 to 500 bucks as well.

But you can get them for less than 100 on ebay...

Thanks for your help mate. That makes a hell of a lot of sense!!

But I don't really like the idea of a second hander. In that case I might just get the GYTR one. I can get it for $200AU posted and it's non programmable so I don't have to worry about it.

Thanks again bro.

well, the question is wheter you are going to be happy puttin your pipes filters and reeds, or are going to eventually go big on the engine mods with porting, stroke and such, and ridding needs.........what you will run into later if you get into building is that a plate can advance or retard the entire curve at once, but that means that you will either be set for mire bottom/mid or more topend. the dyna curves can advance or retard the different rpms separately. you may not need it from only having mild mods or drag application, but big trail type setups it will really be a big want later down the road.....for instance, on my setup for woods and big hill shots, i am going to be running alot of timing down low, a bit in the middle and possibly retarded up top, to broaden the range and not have to sacrifice. on your current setup, however, it will not make much difference at all, and you should be fine with, the gator box, or the box, plus some timing on a plate....

There is nothing wrong with getting a second hander as long as it works. Buy it from a member on here thats parting his bike if your worried about ebay. I have a Dyna and I am going to pull it off and put my stocker back on here shortly for the very reason Dajogejr said. When I was running a relitivly stock bike I could feel a differance from stock to curve setting 3 but I couldn't tell you how much of a gain it was. Never put it on a dyno or anything. Just stick with a stocker, and spend your money else where.

BTW what part of Austrailia are you in?

Thanks guys.

I'm in Perth, Western Australia.

Can you guys recommend any shops over there that ship worldwide? I've only really found ebay stores that do, but I'd rather buy from a real shop.
