Lifer Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 So maybe this is a no brainer, but what would i have to do to prep a frame before sending it off to be powder coated? Also, I've read other things about what can and can't be powder coated due to the high heat factor, so my other question would be about the a-arms. Quote

For god sake please cut the bullshit tabs off and do the finish work nothing drives me crazy like a high dollar powder coat job and some dude is to much of a pussy to break out with die grinder and flap disc and remove the extra exhaust brackets & heel guard bracket just do it .As for the A arms throw them in the trash and buy a good used set of aftermarket A arms Quote

You could also add braces to the steering stem hoop they bend pretty easy Quote
jlevasseur Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 add reenforcement to the steering stem stop, that is always a problem. With out a question, get rid of all the unused brakets. If you do any welding at all, make sure they do not have a fosgene pockets in the welds, that will for sure make a nice powdercoat job look like crap when they pop. A-arms, I wouldn't powdercoat them because you will destroy the ball joints. I would chrome them, adding a second color to build like chrome makes all the difference in the world. And if your powdercoating, mine as well powdercoat anything else you want like, hubs, spindles, ect..... And the powdercoat shop should be plugging all the holes and taking care of the rest of the prep work. Might want to take out the steering stem bearing, the heat might damage it, or just get a new one. good luck man !! Quote
Lifer Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 Thanks guys. I picked up a bare frame today. The first piece of the Banshee puzzle. I'm really excited bout this project as it is my first. I'm looking forward to learning as well as the end result. I'll be looking for advice from time to time. I'll post pics as the build goes on bit by bit. Later ............ Quote
SubarusAreMyThing Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 you dont need to do any prepping. any reputable shop will do all that for you. I run my own powdercoating business. and even if a customer brings me in a frame that looks ready to go, i will still at very least wash it down very well if not still hit it with the soda blaster. It needs to be freshly cleaned, last hting you want to do is coat a dirty grimmey frame. do your metal work, and take it to the shop. Your going to get charged for prep work anyways, might as well let them do it, so you know its going to get done right. Quote
