Timmons Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 Last time I was at the dunes my shee would run perfect for the first 15 to 20 min then it would start to cut out and spudder like it was to die. I would stop and let it cool down and then it would be fine again. What could be causing it to do this? Thanks in advance. T Quote
AKheathen Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 well, if it made it more than 5min of dune riddin ok, then it sounds either electrical, or overheating. check your jetting and folw/condition of your coolant first. if you're not lean and have good cooant/flow, then move to checking out your electrical. ohm stator, replace caps, etc. your flywheel could be a little loose, too Quote

My harness used to ground out on the frame and kill the bike. I removed all the tors shit and hasnt happened since but could this still be a wiring problem, or cdi. I just cant figure out why it cuts out when it gets hot. Thanks for any help. T Quote
AKheathen Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 are you running higher compression than stock? also, have you tried a plug chop @ the dunes? a little rich when @ operating temp should be fine, but if you arer a little rich with the engine cool, and in different environment, you can be alot more rich than you think, and it will take a little longer to warm up to operating temp. also, what kind of stator do you have? have you checked the pickup gap? what do the plugs look like when you let it cool after acting up? also, check the harness, especially near the exhaust for burning. I read a post on the pickup gap and mine is about .028. The post I read said it needs to be between .015, to .018 could this be the cause of my problem? Quote
AKheathen Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 yes, that can cause issues......i would still check out the jetting. 1 size rich will work, but more than that could run bad and sputter/bog a bit Quote

I found that my spark plug rubber boot was old and had tiny cracks in it. It would start up fine cold then after warming up you can hear the spark plug grounding to the throttle cable. Changed it out and never had any problems. Quote
