New to the banshee world, Just have a question. Just picked up a 1989 banshee(used) had it out only once ran just fine, went to start it to ride around my property and I hear a ticking noise. No loss of power to the bike. Its prety much stock with the trinity VI single carb & FMF Fattys. Any Ideas on what this sound could be........you can e-mail at [email protected] Thanks

Reed clap is normal, but dont just go on that, you have to check everything else out, make sure your O rings on the pipes are good, do a leak down, yank the head to see if you have scaring in the cyl walls from excessive wear, could be a great deal of things. Im sure metal on metal makes a different noise then plastic/alum noise. I have the same sound coming from mine always wonder what it was and it ended up being the reeds. goodluck on finding out what it is.

depending on how loud it is and if it gets faster with the revs, its the reed pedals clapping against the cages.

Its not that loud, But when I Rev the throttle it goes faster and a slight bit louder.

so should I replace the reeds as a start?

use a long piece of hose and stick it to your ear, then use the other end to pinpoint the noise by searching the engine and exhaust. i'm tellin you that an exhaust leak will sound just like a lifter tick. bad reeds will sound from the filter/airbox
