sleeper06 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 I live close if you have more problems but i have seen similar problems not only with 4mils.Did you have your crank trued and welded,if so the weld needs to be grinded down and the bearing need to come off to do so.The tig shmeg has got me all f-ed up once before Quote
zach45 Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 not that i know of.... i think its straight from hot rods how it is now... Quote

AKheathen Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 clamp the crank outter bearings in each case half @ a time and see how it rolls. is it hard 360 degrees? Quote
zach45 Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 yea... when i just tighten the top its fine Quote
grandnational Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 yea... when i just tighten the top its fine you probably dont have your cranks seals on the right way take them off and tighten and see if problem is still there.. Quote
Bill Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Does it feel like the crank webs are rubbing or does it feel like the crank bearings are binding? Mabey the cases are warped a little? Quote
mercury65 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 some times you need to trench the case for a 4 mill, seems to be more with the early years. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 some times you need to trench the case for a 4 mill, seems to be more with the early years. Very rare, but entirely possible. Put some chalk, marker, something in the case top and bottom where the crank rolls through. It should rub off on the crank pin/web and you can see where you might have to machine a bit. Take a pic of the sides of the cranks. I just saw a newer 4 mil hot rods crank the other day, I was actually VERY impressed with the welds. Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I fought this battle a few weeks ago. Like said above, make sure your seals and bearings are installed and seated correctly. Are you tightening the bottom middle bolt first? There are numbers stamped on the cases for the correct fastening sequence. Hand tighten a couple of top bolts first and then flip it over and start on the bottom. Quote
