ChasnBox Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 K i'm new to the quad world I just got a banshee and it ran great for a few months then I went for a ride one day and after about five mins of riding it just completely died didn't hesitate or stutter just died almost threw me over the handle bars so I let it sit for a couple minutes and it starts back up and goes for another five minutes then dies again. So I got to thinkin it was flooding out the cylinders cause it would just die and lock up so I replaced the spark plugs, completely went through the carbs and cleaned every hole and piece in them, checked the reeds they look good, checked all the fluids they are topped off and good.It has been modified quite a bit before I got it im sorry I dont know what was done to like I said im new to this.I know its hard to get specific with out know the mods but any generalized help anything would be awesome sorry about the lack of knowledge and understanding thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. bansheesandrider Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Is the engine actually locking up or does it just lose power and come to a stop? If it is not locking up, check your gas cap vent. If it is plugged or not working properly it will not vent the tank and fuel will stop flowing. Mine does this because I have a shorty vent and an unbaffled cap, the fuel sloshes into the vent and evaporates leaving the oil in the vent to collect sand and plug up. Try riding the bike again and when the engine starts to die, loosen the gas cap and see if it starts running again. If it does, the vent is your problem. Good luck. Quote
ChasnBox Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Thanks for helping i haven't tried the gas cap vent but I have pulled off the fuel line to the carbs coming from the tank and there is gas flowing at what seems to be at a normal rate. But the the fuel line coming out of the tank goes to a "T" then splits to both carbs but not with equal length tubing one is shorter is that normal. The engine locks up to the point of when it dies and i'm still rolling ill pull the clutch in and let it back out to try and getting running again. The rear tires wont even move they just slide till stops then ill wait a min and try a rolling start again and the tires will move and will start up and the process repeats but i'm wondering if there is any kind of maybe heat switch or something to that extent that will shut the engine down till it cools down a little then run till it gets warm or just a wire with a short that could shut the engine down i'm sorry again for my lack of knowledge and i have tried pulling out the choke when it starts to die to see if it is running lean and no change i'm going to dive into it tonight and see if i can find out all the mods and specs that have been done but thanks for any comments they all help. Electrical issue, that is for sure. The stator and CDI can both do this. I recommend getting the big to go into that condition, then resistance test the stator. Really sounds more like a CDI but I am not there. Grab the manual up top and do some testing when warm. Quote

This is not good! I am afraid you may have a piston sticking... Quote
