Hey just curious about how much money it costs to split your case? A friend wants to add a new crank. How much have you guys paid in the past? Thanks.

Splitting the cases cost only one rusty nickel and a half eaten snickers bar and about an hour or 2 depending on skillz.

It is free. It is not as overwhelming as it may seem. Not a lot to it, just stay organized and use the right tools. As far as taking it to a shop, they will all be diff rates/hour and how much prep work you do yourself.

if you have any mechanical ability it is sooo simple, i always had bikes so i thought my banshee was going to be tough, so far it is the simplist thing besides a vw bug LOL Like the other guys said just take your time and stay organized. I used to use baggies and lable with a sharpie for nuts bolts etc. but you could also use a big piece of card board with holes and diagram and lable that way.

wow! i thought it was a lot more work than that. We'll see how adventurous we are feeling and decide if we want to take the challenge. Any special tools I need before we get stared?

Don't use that yama-honda bond junk. Its a pain to clean up, you will know when you split the cases. Get a tube of Permatex - anarobic gasket maker, it's about $20 a tube and I have done atleast 10-15 cases with one tube. Clean's up with acetone. Clean both case halves with acetone, then apply a thin layer ( I usually dab it with the tube then go over it with my finger to make it a uniform coating, also apply it to the bottom case (tranny side) it makes it a little easier to put back together. Once it is all bolted back together clean the seam with a rag with some acetone, and finnaly finnish asembly and ride that sh*t!
