350scabarat Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 I say it depends on 2 main things. . Firstly the oil u gana be using. . If u using synthetic oil then itl last very very long. . .maybe 500hours. .also depending how u ride. But synthetic oil is worth it! Cheep crapy oil not long. . .probly half the 500. Ok nd secondly is how well ur ports are shamferd. . .that also chows up rings. . .the crank should also be good if u use synthetic oil Quote

dajogejr Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 As long as it's not crisco...oil will never be your problem. Synthetic or conventional is fine. Keeping the banshee in a solid state of tune (jetting, igntion, etc.) clean and fresh fuel and clean air filters will give your bike the longest life. Anyone worth their salt who bores cylinders should chamfer the ports when done. That's a gimmie...if not, find a new machine shop.... The crank is a crap shoot. The more you beef up the engine, the more time you get on it, etc., the more it prone to separate. Some will tell you they ran stockers for years with no problems, I've seen the separate with bolt on bikes only in a few rides. When and IF you have to tear the motor down, get the stock crank trued and welded. It'll last probably as long as the rest of the bike. Again, type of oil isn't that important. Find a nice, reasonable mixture like 32:1 or 40:1 and you'll be fine. Quote
Drewski Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 it lasts until it lasts you never know and you shouldn't expect very much Quote
Burt Reynolds Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 they can last for quite a long time, our old 91 ran for three years of total hell after we got it,and it was beat down and wore out when we got it. One day it started running funny, wouldnt rev out,and would only bump start, but we still rode it all day, turns out it crapped a ring ! lol Put it back together with just a bore and new pistons, that was two years ago and it still runs today,.
